Manos del Uruguay

Manos del Uruguay is a not for profit founded in 1968 whose aim is to provide jobs to rural women in their hometowns. The co-operatives are currently located in Fraile Muerto, Rio Branco and Dragón, and Manos has been a member of the World Fair Trade Organization since 2009. The artisans are able to provide for their families and raise their children without having to emigrate to find a job.  Each skein of Manos bears a tag with the name of the artisan who made it and the location of the cooperative in an effort to concretely connect the knitter with the artisan that created their yarn.
